Falz is a musical giant in the country with a major intellectual backup as he is an admitted attorney by the bar of Nigeria. 



He is a renowned actor, songwriter, producer, and a rapper who has worked his way up to the top of the charts.

Falz is the first Nigerian rapper to ever win the Nigerian Movie Awards twice. 

This is his biography

Falz Age


Falz, real name Folarin Falana, was born on the 27th of October in 1990 at the local government area of Mushin, Lagos. He is 29 years old. 

Falz Family


He was born to renowned lawyers and human right activists Mr Femi Falana and Mrs Funmi Falana.


As the son of the former National Chairman of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Falz grew up with a focus of following his parent’s footsteps. His father Mr Femi, contested for Ekiti State governorship election in 2007 but lost the political race. 

Falz decided to follow the same route of a career path and ended up going into law school to become a Lawyer. 

Falz Education


Falz finished his basic and secondary studies at St. Leo's Catholic Primary School, Ikeja and Olashore International Schoolin the Osun State respectively. The rapper furthered his studies at the University of Reading England, having graduated with an LLB Honours Degree in Law.

Falz Relationship


The musician has mentioned that he is single and does not know when he would get married.


This came up when he was asked about his colleagues who are married, and he confidently shared that he doesn't want to end up having a baby out of wedlock and he will get married with time when he is ready. 

When asked if he would subscribe to monogamy or polygamy and join the trend of having ‘Baby mamas’ like his colleagues Davido and Wizkid, Falz confidently said he does not know his fate.

“Personally at this moment, I cannot see the future to know my fate on that currently”

“I do not have plans for marriage yet or baby mama, I am still a single man.”

“But one day, I will love to get married”

Falz Career


Falz started music as a hobby while in secondary school.


He enjoyed the instrument, the role of a producer and rapping along to any form of a beat. 

The musician formed a musical group with a friend and called it, The School Boys. They worked on producing music through the usage of FruityLoops which is a software music production environment.



The musician released a mixtape, Shakara: The Mixtape, which was a compilation of his all-time recordings. 

For him to finally penetrate the music market in Nigeria, he released his single, Waz Up Guy, and he later released High Class but the musician cemented his way into the music industry through his single, Currency.

Currency gained recognition throughout Nigeria and the masses started to take interest in his music, and his following started to grow.


In 2014, he released his debut studio album, Wazup Guy, which received a great response from music critics. Falz was later that year listed on tooXclusive, Artist To Watch for. 

The album started winning awards and nominations -  he was nominated in the Best Collaboration of The Year category at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards for his hit single Marry Me

Falz dominated the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards where he was nominated in 4 different categories which included Best Collaboration of The Year, Best Rap Act of The Year, Best New Act to Watch. 

Falz released yet another single Ello Bae which led him to winning the Best Street Hip Hop artist of The Year category, where he went head-to-head with the likes of Olamide, Zlatan, Davido and many more big-name artists in Nigeria, at the time. 

The rapper released his second studio album, Stories That Touch on the 17th of November in 2015. The album yet again received great responses and became one of the most played records in television, in Nigeria. 


The musician wasn’t only focused on making music, he also ventured into acting. Falz shocked his fans when he was awarded Best Actor in a Comedy Movie. He was later voted the winner of the Viewers Choice International Act category in the 2016 BET Awards.

He released a collaborative album with Simi for Chemistry which is a seven-track EP which was produced by Sees. Falz and Simi had previously worked together on Jamb Questions and Soldier.

Falz released his third studio album on his 27th birthday in 2017. The album was a surprise as it wasn’t promoted prior to its release. It contained 17 tracks including hit singles like "Bhad Baddo Baddest", "Wehdone sir", and "Something light". It featured prominent music acts like Davido, Olamide, Burna Boy, Wande Coal, Maleek Berry, Sir Dauda, Medikal, Terry Apala, and Ycee. 

The album earned accolades throughout Nigeria and was nominated for The Headies Award for Rap Album of the Year. 

A year later, Falz released a video of the song, This Is Nigeria - which was inspired by Childish Gambino’s, This Is America.  Falz used the song to expose the socio-economic problems and the bribery which was leading Nigeria into a corrupt state.



The song was later banned by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and this was through claims that it contained strong language and vulgar. When Falz was asked, he said:

“If they ban this song, then I do not understand them because that song is definitely not a vulgar song,”.

However, Falz sued NBC for N100 Million for their wrongful ban.



Venturing into acting as well, Falz won Best Supporting Actor at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, 2010. The rapper was awarded for his role as Quam in Tope Oshun Ognu’s movie, New Money

He became the first Nigerian musician to have won the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards twice. To date, Falz has starred in 9 movies and has released 4 albums. He’s won 11 awards to date.

Falz Business


Falz is the owner of the independent record label, Bahd Guys Records, which was founded in 2011. He has artists such as Sir Dauda signed under the record label.



During the early days of his career, Falz said he had a difficult time getting signed under a record label. He took matters into his own hands and that's how he came up with Bahd Guys Records.

Throughout his musical contributions and acting, Falz has been estimated to be worth $2 million and through his growth in the industry, he could be banking more, in a few years to come.

Falz continues to dominate the entertainment industry in Nigeria and the fans can only expect great work from him.
